Construction began in the second half of the 15 century, and is the realization of an ideal meeting point between military and civilian architecture.
Open to the public since 1952 ,today the Castle in Bracciano is a dynamic reality which conciliates its own museum vocation with an intense activity in the organization of events which are necessary to improve the value of the good and which can create a virtuous circle that permits to carry on a wise and steady work of preservation and restoration. The guided tour inside the castle is in English and will take about one hour.
Next site to visit is the village of Ceri ,Inhabited before the 7th century B.c, the town’s native population changed several times, from Etruscans to Romans. Numerous tombs from the Etruscan and Roman periods can be found in the area. The town as it looks today was founded in 1236, when the inhabitants of its Caere neighbor abandoned the former to be better protected by rock formations.Since the 14th century, Ceri became the property of some of the greatest Italian families, and ended with the Torlonia ,who are still owners of a large part of Ceri.In town you will enjoy a typical Italian Restaurant. Afterwards you will continue into the fascinating archaeological area,of Banditaccia Necropolis in Cerveteri declared from the Unesco World Heritage Site.
It covers an area of 400 ha, of which 10 ha can be visited, encompassing a total of 1,000 tombs often housed in characteristic mounds. It is the largest ancient necropolis in the Mediterranean area. The name Banditaccia comes from the leasing (bando) of areas of land to the Cerveteri population by the local landowners. The tombs date from the 9th century BC ,to the late Etruscan age (3rd century BC). The most ancient ones are in the shape of a pit, in which the ashes of the dead were housed; also simple potholes are present. After visiting the site, you ‘ll come back to your Ship around 5.00 p.m.
