Your english speaking driver will pick you up at your hotel in Rome at 8.00 a.m, and the tour will be start from the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the walls .This is the breathtaking basilica where St. Paul is buried and it is considered the second largest Basilica in Rome .Your journey will continue to the Circus Maximus the largest ancient stadium where chariot races were held for the pleasure of Roman citizens.Next you will proceed along the Appian way and stop at the tiny church of the Domine quo Vadis. The Domine Quo church ,takes its name from the oral tradition according to which the apostle Peter, fleeing from the city to avoid martyrdom, meets Jesus to whom he addresses the following words “Domine quo vadis (Lord, where are you going)?” And the Lord replied “Venio Romam iterum crucifigi (I am coming to Rome to be crucified again). As we make our way along the Appian Way, you will visit the Christian Catacombs. The underground tour takes about 45 minutes , including a guide who will take you inside. Next stop will be the Church of St.Peter in Chains. It was first built in 432 to house a portion of the chains that held Saint Peter where he was imprisoned in Jerusalem. Here you will also have the viewing of Michelangelo’s Moses completed 1515 .
Our next destination will be the Pantheon, once the temple of all Roman gods. Later it became a church and burial place for the Italian kings and famous artists like Raphael. It is the best preserved of all Roman buildings, and perhaps the best preserved building of its age in the world. It has been in continuous use throughout its history. We’ll have a stop for lunch in a typical Italian Restaurant where you’ll enjoy Pizza, the home made Pasta or Salad. After lunch will be the time to visit the Vatican Museum where you will be able to admire the vast collection of masterpieces, including the Sistine Chapel and St.Peter Basilica. It is important to note that proper attire must be worn in the Vatican: shoulders and knees must be covered.The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are closed every Sundays.Usually the Vatican tour will take 2,5 hours .Then ready to go back to your hotel around 4.00 p.m.
