The departure from your accommodation in Rome will be at 7:30 am and within 2,30 hours will reached  the Ruins in Pompeii. It’s a trip not to be missed in this region of Italy and includes both tour of Pompei’s ruins      and a climb to the smoking summit of the volcano.

Pompeii holds an intense fascination for visitors today. Following the eruption of the volcano Mt Vesuvius in the year 79 AD, Pompeii lay buried and forgotten for hundreds of years.   You can see the past prosperity of the town in the Roman villas, bathhouses and temples which have been unearthed. Even an amphitheatre has been found. Founded in the sixth or early fifth century B.C., it was a Roman colony by 80 B.C. and became a prosperous port and resort with many noted villas, temples, theaters, and baths. The incredibly well-preserved ruins were rediscovered in 1748 and have been extensively excavated. Taking a guided tour is the best way to experience the ruins. Your guided tour of Pompei (approximately 2 hours) takes you to the Forum, the Teatre the Thermal Baths, Vetti’s House and the Lupanare brothel, buried by volcanic ashes from the eruption. After a break for a pizza lunch, you’ll continue to Mt.Vesuvius, to view first-hand the source of the devastation that destroyed the city of Pompeii almost two thousand years ago. You can choose to climb Mt, Vesuvius (approximately 50 minutes), a walking around the crater at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters). From the summit you’ll have panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peering down into the depths of the crater, you may see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano. A medium to high level of fitness is required to complete the climb. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes! The height of the main cone changes with each eruption, varying within aew hundred feet of the 4,000-ft (1,219-m) level.

The sides of Vesuvius are deeply scarred by lava flow, but its lower slopes are extremely fertile, dotted with villages, and covered with vineyards which produce the famous Lachryma Christi Red wine. The base of the mountain (circumference c.45 mi/70 km) is encircled by a railroad, and a chairlift reaches almost to the rim of the crater (diameter c.2,300 ft/700 m). On the western slope, at 1,995 ft (608 m), there is a seismological observatory (built 1840–45). The outline of Vesuvius forms part of the backdrop of Naples; it is often surmounted by a faint plume of smoke. The earliest recorded eruption (A.D. 79) was described by Pliny the Younger in two letters to Tacitus; the eruption buried Pompeii, Herculaneum, under cinders, ashes, and mud. Pliny the Elder was killed by the eruption, which he had come to investigate. Frequent eruptions have been recorded since Pompeii was destroyed, notably in 512, in 1631, six times in the 18th, and in 1906, 1929, and 1944.
